Cherry Creek Theatre: "Vigil" 10/5 thru 10/27 - Fridays & Saturdays-7:30pm and Sundays - 6:30pm at the Cherry Creek Theatre (3rd Ave & Josephine St.) A moving comedy about the end, but the real question is whose end is it? A middle-aged curmudgeonk, Kemp comes to visit an old aunt on the basis of a letter she sent him saying she's dying. He's her only living relative, and so he gives up his minor position in a minor savings and loan to sit vigil in her dusty attic-like room through her death. Despite Kemp's offers to guide her through the pearly gates, she just won't die.
The Bad Plus w/Joshua Trinindad Quartet on Sat. 10/19 - 9pm at the Oriental Theater. The Bad Plus have broken down the walls of jazz convention and created an uncompromising body of work. Their belief in the band ethos and their personal brand of avant-garde populism have put them at the forefront of a new instrumental music movement, drawing audiences both traditional and mainstream. Trumpeter Joshua Trinidad can be heard on albums with notable artists and bands such as Tiny Television, Hugh Ragin, Lee Konitz, The Pirate Signal, The Mars Volta, Love 45, Cake, The United States Air force Falconaries, The Colorado Wind Ensemble, Fishbone, George Clinton, The Bad Plus and many others.

Lisa Engelken CD: Little Warrior It all started with the Valentines Day Recordings of February 2012: Lisa and a powerhouse trio of West Coast musicians came together to lay the groundwork for the Little Warrior Project. Steve Turre CD: The Bones of Art Steve Turre has made a career out of creating and realizing projects that are firmly grounded in the jazz traditions, even when he's playing his conch shells. The Bones of Art may indeed be a first for jazz. Back in 1954, trombonists J.J. Johnson (Turre's greatest influence on the instrument) and Kai Winding recorded the first of five albums with a bone duo in the frontline. Manhattan Transfer on Sun. 10/27 at 7pm at the Oriental Theater. Originally formed in 1969, the quartet recorded several albums of jazz standards as well as much material closer to R&B/pop. Still, they were easily the most popular jazz vocal group of their era, and the most talented of any since the heyday of Lambert, Hendricks & Ross during the early '60s.
