Capital Campaign - KUVO's Legacy of Diversity
Since its inception in 1985, jazz89 KUVO - "The Oasis in the City" -has provided a wide range of music covering the diversity of Denver and the Front Range. You've been able to count on KUVO to provide Jazz, Blues and Latin Jazz along with over a dozen award-winning specialty shows heard nowhere else on the radio dial. The Capital Campaign allows KUVO to build our broadcast home, broadcast tower, Performance Studio and extend our presence into Vail/Eagle counties.
Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio
The KUVO Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio has hosted performances from the biggest in jazz, blues and Latin jazz and has broadcasted Colorado's up and coming musicans. The studio was inaugurated in September of 1996, wtih a performance by Manfredo Fest and now, almost fifteen years later, performers like Roy Hargrove, Eddie Palmieri, Kurt Elling, Hilton Ruiz, Rene Marie and Dianne Reeves are among the many talented musicians who've entertained numrous KUVO studio audiences and listeners. In 2007, former KUVO Board of Director, volunteer and Morning Beat book reviewer, Dr. Robert Greer contributed a generous donation to KUVO to ensure that the Performance Studio will continue to broadcst the music that enlightened and entertained his beloved, late wife Phyllis Greer. KEEP THE MUSIC LIVE! Dr. Robert Greer's gift allows us to begin a much-needed renovation of the studio. The project will include acoustic upgrades, implementing audio-visual capabilities, and rebuilding the temperature and humidification system that houses the $80,000 Boesendorfer provided by Onofiro Piano. KUVO expresses heartfelt thanks and acknowledges Dr. Greer's generous gift by renaming the studio Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. WORLD-CLASS PERFORMANCES AND RECORDING SESSIONS Our goal is to raise $100,000 to complete the renovation and it can begin with your help. In 1996, many friends of KUVO provided monetary gifts to open the studio. Join the innovative friiends of KUVO who've led the way. Help us make the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio a state of the art listening and studio facility for thousands of people in our community. KVJZ Vail/Eagle
KUVO received an FCC Construction Permit for New Station in Vail/Eagle County After a long and competitive FCC application process, in May of 2007, KUVO was awarded a construction permit to build a new full power FM station. When completed KVJZ will bring KUVO's unique programming to Vail/Eagle county listeners. The new station call letters will be KVJZ, and its broadcast frequency will be 88.5FM. KUVO has applied for a federal grant tht, if awarded, would provide nearly 40% of the total costs of constructing the new station. KUVO must raise additional funds necessary to complete the project. MAY 2010 BROADCAST The new station construction must be completed with KVJZ set to broadcast by May 2010 or the FCC construction permit expires and the opportunity will be lost, perhaps forever, for KUVO to expand its broadcast coverage to Vail/Eagle county. Interested in supporting KVJZ? Please contact Alfredo Cruz, 303-480-9272 Ext. 18 or alfredo@kuvo.org. If you are a business, organization, or non-profit from Vail/Eagle county, and would like to be heard now on Denver's KUVO -- please call Tina Cartagena, 303-480-9272 Ext. 12 or tina@kuvo.org. For programming information, Carlos Lando, 303-480-9272 Ext. 25 or carlos@kuvo.org.
KUVO Tower
50-year old tower current home for KUVO on Lookout Mountain. KUVO is currently in negotiations to replace our tower and move jointly with KVOD-FM. With our partner we continue to set in motion the tower project. We're in the first phase of this project. A federal grant that was secured some years back will cover a large portion of the costs of constructing the new tower. KUVO and its broadcast partner must raise the rest of the funding necessary to finalize this project. KUVO's share of the costs is currently estimated at $300,000. Thanks to many donors, during a July 2008 fundraiser the station raised almost $40,000 from our listeners. This is KUVO's only opportunity ot continue broadcasting because the Lookout Mountain tower at this time is set to be demolished following the construction of the new Mt. Morrison tower. The time frame for this project is short. We must raise the KUVO's share of the costs by 2009 to insure that KUVO will have a home for its transmitter. For more information on this project please contact KUVO's CEO/President Alfredo Cruz, 303-480-9272, Ext. 18 or by email at alfredo@kuvo.org.
