A saxophonist, composer, and educator, Kyle Etges has been playing his own musical projects since the age of 13.

“As soon as I start [composing], I will not sleep and eat, not do anything, until that piece is done,” Kyle said. “I just can’t stop.”

Kyle is proficient on a number of instruments including flute, clarinet, saxophone, and percussion.

A graduate of the University of Northern Colorado, Kyle holds a double major in music education and jazz studies.

As an educator, Kyle teaches children the importance of teamwork and social responsibility through music.

“No matter how popular jazz is, there is always people who are falling in love with it every single day,” Kyle said.

You can catch Kyle in action with his group, Contraband, as well as reggae group Highway 50.

To celebrate 30 years on the air and invest in the future of jazz, KUVO interviewed 30 local musicians under the age of 30. These features will be released on-air and online June 29-October 31.
