New Trane, Regina Carter in New Jersey, Lorraine Gordon RIP

Jun 15, 2018

John Coltrane has a new release on Impulse!

Both Directions At Once: The Lost Album features original, never-before-heard compositions, recorded by Coltrane’s classic quartet in 1963 at Van Gelder Studios in New Jersey.

Jazz violinist Regina Carter has been named Artistic Director of this summer’s Rutgers – Newark All-Female Jazz Residency at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. Carter succeeds the late jazz pianist and composer Geri Allen.

Jazz Times and many others on social media, and here at KUVO note the passing of Lorraine Gordon earlier this month at age 95.  She was the longtime owner of the Village Vanguard in New York.  She was widow of the jazz club founder Max Gordon – who died in 1989.
