Nick Benitez is a trumpeter, educator, and composer from New York City. Having grown up playing bass and classical/electric guitar, music has always been a part of the young jazz musician’s life. He grew up mostly playing traditional South American and Caribbean music and picked up the trumpet at the age of 11. Having toured the country, parts of Canada and the Caribbean, Nick has played and recorded a wide variety of music from Jazz to Afro-Beat to Salsa and Puerto Rican bomba music.

The young jazz trumpeter has shared the stage with artists such as Jon Faddis, Vincent Herring, Ignacio Berroa, Alan Ferber, Ingrid Jensen, The Mills Brothers, Cyrille Aimee, Jon Secada, Gloria Estefan, Arturo O’Farrill, and many more. Nick is currently a first year doctoral candidate at The University of Miami and frequently flies to NYC for regular performances with his Afro-Beat group, ‘The Brighton Beat’. Tonight, the New York City native and some of Denver’s most swingin’ musicians present to you the music of Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers.
