Walter Gorra Jazz

Throughout my fifteen year tenure as Music Director for KUVO Jazz, few of our CD of the Month selections have elicited as much joy and satisfaction as this month’s choice of the Walter Gorra Quartet’s debut, In Due Time I have had the pleasure of knowing the Gorra family since 2008, I have seen Walter mature as a brilliant jazz pianist and composer all the while he has pursued his family’s tradition of becoming a structural engineer.

The Walter Gorra Quartet will perform music from their debut CD, “In Due Time,” at KUVO Jazz’s Phyllis A Greer Performance Studio on Friday, August 17, at 2pm. This is a special presentation of their new music for Studio Club members. Walter will have copies of his new release with him for Studio Club members to purchase at a special price for KUVO Studio Club members. The Quartet is Walter Gorra-piano, Gonzalo Teppa-bass,  Greg Tanner Harris-vibes and Manuel López-drums/percussion.

For well over a decade, Don Byron has been a singular voice in an astounding range of musical contexts, exploring widely divergent traditions while continually striving for what he calls "a sound above genre." As clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, arranger, and social critic, he redefines every genre of music he plays, be it classical, salsa, hip-hop, funk, rhythm & blues, klezmer, or any jazz style from swing and bop to cutting-edge downtown improvisation.
