This is the first volume of an original Nocturne series dedicated to sharing the prodigious art form of bebop. Curated by Colorado-based saxophonist / arranger / composer Wil Swindler, the series name is inspired by the iconic Royal Roost jazz club on New York's storied 52nd Street in the late 1940's where bebop was organically brought to life by musicians such as Dexter Gordon, Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Tadd Dameron, Fats Navarro, Miles Davis and Max Roach.

I continue to be floored as I discover the depth in the field of great jazz musicianship here in Cowtown. Matt Smiley ranks right up there with our best.
