Dave Hammond performed professionally in Boston, South America and Denver before becoming one of the founding music instructors at the Denver School of the Arts (DSA). Under the direction of Mr. Hammond DSA bands have performed at 13 of the last 16 Colorado Music Educators Association conferences, performed 14 times at the CBA State Concert Band Finals, won many awards and accolades including Downbeat Magazine Student Awards: Best Chamber Group, Best Classical Symphonic Band, Best Big Band and Best Studio Orchestra.

Nocturne Jazz & Supper Club is pleased to be presenting saxophonist Peter Sommer in a special four week Saturday night series highlighting the original works from his albums "Tremolo Canteen" and "Narrando Historias" as well as new small group pieces tailored for this residency at Nocturne. Inspired by life, philosophy, and literature, Sommer's music retains a tuneful quality while highlighting the band's lyricism and rhythmic aptitude.

Featuring: Peter Sommer on sax, Ben Markley on piano, Patrick McDevitt on bass and Alejandro Castaño on drums.

A special Friday Night Residency series featuring the musical legacy of the "Jazz Crusaders" hard bop pioneers (and later fusion pioneers as the "Crusaders") is performed by Pete Lewis and his Quintet. The Jazz Crusaders were influenced by many of the hard bop groups of that time period including Miles Davis, Art Blakey, and Horace Silver. They became the "Crusaders" in the period when jazz groups were experimenting with electronic instrumentation and funk/hip hop beats. They still stayed close to their roots of creative improvisation with well crafted tunes.
