Steve Chavis
Shows - The Morning Set | Monday—Friday 7 am
Steve Chavis is co-host of “The Morning Set” with Carlos Lando and producer Abi Clark on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Formerly a night owl, Steve’s been getting up early since joining KUVO Jazz in 2012. “It’s a great privilege to greet the day with KUVO Jazz listeners. There’s a tempo that comes with a morning show. I need these tunes to get me moving!” A long-time journalist, Steve also presents “Jazz News” from Colorado and around the world on Mondays.
His taste in music was formed in Detroit, with gospel, jazz, and blues always on the family stereo. Soul in the 60s, funk, rock in the 70s, and fusion in the 80s are all part of Steve’s diverse musical taste, suitable for discerning jazzheads and casual jazzers alike.
He began his career in public radio as an intern at WDET-Detroit and a volunteer at KGNU-Boulder. Before coming to KUVO, Steve was news director for KBCO, KHOW, and KHIH and spent a dozen years directing communications for an international non-profit organization based in Denver. He also ran his own media consulting agency.
Steve and his bride Theonita have been married 40+ years. They are the parents of four grown-ups, grandparents to two wonderful boys, and grand-humans to an awesome frisbee dog “Bella.”
