interview with Nic Garcia

Innovations and controversies on the Colorado education scene make this one of the most interesting regions of the country.  From the Colorado desk of the national education news site Chalkbeat, Nic Garcia visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with “The eight stories that changed Colorado’s education landscape in 2014.”

“In September when we had thousands upon thousands of students in Jefferson County leaving their classrooms to protest a proposed curriculum committee that they thought would lead to censorship, we had folks on the ground from the New York Times, The Guardian, The Washington Post and Chalkbeat,” said Garcia.

The national education stories of testing and Common Core standards had a Colorado component, with backlash coming from students, teachers and parents.

Garcia also discussed Denver Public Schools efforts to address the racial “opportunity gap.”
