interview with Julie Speer and clip of “Dust Bowl” episode

Even as a young state (celebrating 138 years as part of the Union this past August 1, 2014), Colorado has a few stories to tell.  The Rocky Mountain PBS show “Colorado Experience” is in its second season.  Producer Julie Speer visited “First Take with Lando and Chavis” with a preview of the episodes to come.

“We don’t use narration, so it’s all the voices of folks who know the stories best,” said Speer.   First person accounts include survivors of the 1930 dust bowl.  This interview includes an audio segment of the program.

The series resumes on October 2, 2014 with the story of “The Manassa Mauler,” boxer Jack Dempsey (a Colorado native).  Other shows cover the 1993 visit of Pope John Paul II to Denver, Norad, The Smaldone Family, the Sand Creek Massacre, El Movimiento and more.

The show’s home page with a schedule and descriptions of the shows is at www.rmpbs.org/coloradoexperience
