AEG Live presents an evening in concert with The Colorado Symphony featuring Diana Krall with special guest Pink Martini August 12 at Red Rocks Amphitheatre

By any standard, five-time Grammy Award winning jazz pianist and vocalist Diana Krall is one of the most accomplished and distinctive musicians in the world today.

Krall has sold more albums than any other female jazz artist of the last 30 years, establishing herself as one of the best-selling and most beloved performers of her generation. Her recordings have earned her nine gold, three platinum and seven multi-platinum albums.

Krall remains a true musical force. At any given moment she could be producing Barbra Streisand’s new album, serving as musical director and arranger for Paul McCartney, or hitting the road for a good cause with Neil Young.

Drawing inspiration from music from all over the world – crossing genres of classical, jazz and old-fashioned pop – pianist Thomas Lauderdale founded the “little orchestra” Pink Martini in 1994 in Portland, Oregon.

“Pink Martini is a rollicking around-the-world musical adventure … if the United Nations had a house band in 1962, hopefully we’d be that band,” Lauderdale said.

Pink Martini draws inspiration from the romantic Hollywood musicals of the 1940s or ‘50s, with a more global perspective.

“We write a lot of songs … but we also champion songs like Ernesto Lecuona’s “Andalucia” or “Amado mio” from the Rita Hayworth film “Gilda”…In that sense we’re a bit like musical archeologists, digging through recordings and scores of years past and rediscovering beautiful songs,” Lauderdale said.

Pink Martini has twelve musicians (and sometimes travels with string sections), and performs its multilingual repertoire on concert stages and with symphony orchestras throughout Europe, Asia, Greece, Turkey, the Middle East, Northern Africa, Australia and New Zealand and North America.
