In honor and celebration of Black History Month, Connect for Health Colorado has commissioned award-winning street artist Max Sansing to create a mural honoring Dr. Justina L. Ford in historic Five Points at the corner of 27th and Welton Streets. Dr. Ford is a medical pioneer and Colorado’s first licensed female African American doctor. Known as “the baby doctor,” it is estimated that Dr. Ford delivered over 7,000 babies during her fifty years as a physician in Denver.

Dr. Justina L. Ford’s Babies: The mural is scheduled to be dedicated the morning of Friday – February 21, at 10:00 a.m at 2701 Welton Street, Denver. The ceremony is an opportunity for any resident delivered by Dr. Ford to personally honor her by signing a board with their name and year of birth. The board will later be gifted to the Black American West Museum & Heritage Center.  Please help us get the word out to Dr. Ford’s babies and patients so we can honor her and celebrate Black History Month together. #DrFordDeliveredMe

The American West Museum is asking for anybody who was delivered by Dr. Justina Ford or former patients and would like to take part in this photo shoot, to please get in touch directly with Sylvia Lambe at sylvia@lambepr.com  or 720.276.3880 or leave a private message on the BAWM’s Facebook page.
