Both Clare Church and Chase Elodia received a Pathways to Jazz grant from the Boulder County Arts Alliance in 2021, and both will be presenting some of their music on this rare double bill.

Chase Elodia Quartet leads off the evening.Chase Elodia is a composer and drummer based in Brooklyn. He will be bringing his band to the Muse to celebrate their album “Portrait Imperfect,” which was released on Biophilia Records earlier this year. The record was funded in part by a grant from the Pathways to Jazz. Hailed as an “artful” and “ambitious” ensemble by Downbeat Magazine, the band combines a collaborative and improvisational sensibility with an aesthetic orientation that has been nourished by singer-songwriters and electronic artists like Meshell Ndegeocello, Norma Winstone, and Becca Stevens.

Clare Church has been a fixture on the Denver jazz scene for over 30 years, first as a saxophonist, whose experience includes sharing the stage with the bands of Joe Henderson, Benny Carter, Dizzy Gillespie, and Nancy Wilson, Doc Severinsen and many more, and then as a drummer, with Ron Miles, Greg Gisbert, Gabe Mervine, Robert Johnson, and many other Denver luminaries. Clare is a two-time recipient of the Pathways to Jazz grant. Her band Expeditions, co-led by Pete Lewis, produced their 2016 album, “I’ll Fly Away” thanks in part to funding by Pathways to Jazz.

For this special concert, Clare premiers music written and arranged for her upcoming vocal album, “Clare Church Sings!” as well as selections from Expeditions 2016 Pathways to Jazz-funded album, “I’ll Fly Away.”
