Treat yourself to an evening of jazz standards featuring a group of the best swinging musicians in Denver and the remarkable phrasing of vocalist Lenny Kaye. A native of Denver who cut his chops from the age of 18 playing tenor sax on the road and at home with some of Denver’s finest jazz musicians, Kaye ultimately found himself in the ’60s teaching all day at Northwestern University and playing Chicago clubs at night. Recovered from a debilitating stroke while still in Chicago but left with a crippled hand that ended his tenor sax playing, Lenny found out he had a voice one evening at a club when a jazz pianist friend threw him a chart and said, “Give this a try, Lenny.” The rest, as they say, is history.
