Kuvo Jazz welcomes Nice Work Jazz Combo to perform for the Studio Club on Wednesday, August 28 from 6 to 7pm in the Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. The Combo is a sax, piano, bass, drums, vocals quintet that plays original arrangements of vocal and instrumental jazz standards.
Nice Work Jazz Combo is a Boulder-area based band that has been together for over five years, playing regularly at Caffe Sole, the St Julien, Nissis, the Boulderado, the Muse, etc., as well as various private events. Over the years they’ve built up a song-book of in-house arrangements. In 2017 we were awarded a Pathways to Jazz grant to do a recording. The studio tracking was done in late 2018 and the completed album is now available on CD and various online sources (apple, amazon, CD Baby). The album is named the “Pathways Sessions,” it has 14 tracks which are a selection of arrangements we use at our live shows. Nominally led by Brian, the group functions artistically as a collective, Frequent guests artists or subs include Victor Mestas, Carmen Sandim, MaryLynn Gillespie, Janine Gastineau, Andrew Vogt, Chris Engleman and others.
Brian Kauffman on drums, Pete Lewis on saxes, Jason Malmberg on bass, Heidi Schmidt on vocals and Jerry Weiss on piano
