“Collier has established himself as an heir apparent to both the Chicago lineage and the post-Coltrane sax tradition.” — The New York Times
While still in his mid-20s, saxophonist Isaiah Collier has already made his mark with five albums and another one coming in October, The World is on Fire. Collier’s work is widely hailed in the jazz community, and he’s won a DownBeat Rising Star award in both 2023 and 2024. His sound is passionate and spiritual, with echoes of John Coltrane, Pharoah Sanders, Sun Ra and other icons of that era. But clearly, Collier’s frame of reference is the future. Discussing the new record he says, “We stand on the precipice of an unknown journey, and my goal is to find inspiration and insight into where we might be headed. This encompasses mental, spiritual, physical and emotional transformation, driven by a burning passion to foster a better world.”
