“A painting is music you can see and music is a painting you can hear.” — Miles Davis

Miles @ 100 triumphantly celebrates the life and legacy of Miles Davis, a jazz legend of uncompromising merit, with brilliant new arrangements of music from the legendary Birth of the Cool sessions through his late ’60s classic quintet.

Former Davis alumnus John Beasley curates a celebratory ensemble of jazz superstars that includes trumpeter Marquis Hill, saxophonist Mark Turner, guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel, bassist Ben Williams, and drummer Terreon Gully. A Grammy-winning pianist and composer, Beasley’s arrangements delve into the boundless creativity of Davis, drawing on the astonishing talents of each band member to explore the visionary spirit of the great bandleader.

Marquis Hill is a trumpet player of stunning artistry and expression, and whose own music has caught the ear of the jazz world with his hip-hop inspired blend of improvisation and composition. Saxophonist Mark Turner has been a leader of his generation of jazz artists, with unmatched originality and mastery evident in his work with Fly, Ethan Iverson, Tom Harrell, and others.

Kurt Rosenwinkel’s unique guitar sound and musical vision has made him one of the most important artists of our time. Bassist Ben Williams’ credits include nearly every major artist in jazz and beyond, including Pat Metheny, George Benson, Stefon Harris, David Sanborn, Lauryn Hill, Wynton Marsalis, Robert Glasper, and more. Terreon Gully is a Grammy winner himself, and his drumming with Dianne Reeves, Christian McBride, Stefon Harris, David Sanborn, Yerba Buena, and others has made him one of the most exciting artists in music today.
