Ella Fitzgerald birthday celebration with Louisa Amend

Nocturne is delighted to welcome Denver jazz vocalist Louisa Amend to the stage as we celebrate the 99th birthday of Ella Fitzgerald -the "First Lady of Song." Louisa will be joined on stage by Tom Amend - piano, Jean-Luc Davis - bass, and Kevin Matthews - drums.

Louisa Amend is a vocalist and educator based in Denver, Colorado. She graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 2016 with a Bachelor's of Music Education and was a member of numerous premier ensembles (one earning a Downbeat Magazine best of award) and opera productions produced by the university. After teaching music in public schools for a few years, Louisa transitioned into working as a freelance musician and founding her own voice studio, and she is quickly becoming a mainstay in the Denver jazz scene. In the fall of 2022 and again in 2023, Louisa partnered with pianist Eric Gunnison to perform a special artist-in-residency at Nocturne honoring the late American jazz singer Carmen McRae - these shows were met with a truly marvelous reception.
