Eric Gunnison Quintet: Horace Silver Reimagined

Event's site
A poster for Eric Gunnison Quintet: Horace Silver Reimagined event

We are proud to host acclaimed pianist, composer and bandleader Eric Gunnison, as he brings his quintet to Nocturne to reimagine and explore the music of Horace Silver deeply. An iconic pianist, composer, and bandleader, Silver helped to pioneer the swinging, blues-influenced sound of hard bop in the 1950s and beyond and contributing many records and songs that are synonymous with the "Golden Era" of jazz.

Eric will be joined by Mike Abbott on guitar, Gabe Mervine on trumpet, Mark Simon on bass, and Mike Marlier on drums.

Eric Gunnison was raised in Buffalo, NY and attended Berklee College of Music in Boston, graduating with a BA in music composition in 1979. He lives in Denver, where he has been a mainstay in the music scene for two decades. Eric performs the world over and has appeared in concert with Ron Miles, Dizzy Gillespie, James Moody, Phil Woods, Bobby Shew, Chris Potter, Christian McBride, and Eddie Gome,z to name a few. Many of Eric's early career highlights include his time serving as a pianist and music director to the great Carmen McRae.

Since 1991, Gunnison has also been the pianist and a composer/arranger for the Denver super-group Convergence. Gunnison recently retired from his long-held position at The University of Denver’s Lamont School of Music and is now exclusively a performer.
