Due to high winds and fire danger, transmitters are operating at reduced power and reception may be affected through the weekend. Thank you for your understanding and support! You can listen online and on the KUVO app.
For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO JAZZ on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.
Join me for an evening of Folk & Country, w/guest vocalists and an absolutely stellar band! On our set list: folk songs old & new (CSNY, Paul Simon, David Berkeley), classic country songs from the 1950s and 60s (Hoyt Axton, Patsy Cline, the Everly Brothers) and newer tunes by alt-country singer/songwriters Gillian Welch & David Rawlings. Love songs, peace songs, freedom songs. Backing us are the always-fabulous Bill Kopper (guitar), Peter Huffaker (bass), Clare Church (drums), and special guests Kieran Boes and Paula Jayne Friedland.
Why folk & country? Well, the earliest music I heard growing up were albums by Johnny Cash, Joan Baez, and Peter, Paul & Mary. From them I discovered singing in harmony, and also learned about justice and the power of peaceful means to make change. A love for Patsy Cline's music followed, and I started performing her songs and even appeared as an extra in the biopic about her amazing life, SWEET DREAMS. I return to this music whenever I can, and am especially glad to sing these songs with my son and my best friend.
NOTE: Funds from this show will also support my upcoming choir tour to New York City's CARNEGIE HALL this May (!!!) So come on out, y'all!
