Thank you to those who supported KUVO JAZZ on Colorado Gives Day!
For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO JAZZ on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.
An unforgettable evening as Five Points Plaza is transformed into an open-air amphitheater—complete with seated areas, creative bars, and an immersive live-music vibe—courtesy of Spangalang Brewery. The spotlight shines on acclaimed saxophonist Tony Exum Jr., whose soulful, sultry sound has made him a national recording artist in contemporary jazz, R&B, and funk.
Born in Colorado Springs, Tony Exum Jr. grew up with jazz in his blood—military life took him from Germany to Mississippi, New Orleans, and Phoenix before he settled back in Colorado.
He began playing saxophone at 11 and honed his craft through adolescence. At 20, he became a fixture on the Colorado jazz scene and launched his solo career in 2008.
He’s released acclaimed albums such as Finally (2010) and The One (2012), and his 2019 single “My Name’s Tony” climbed the Smooth Jazz Network’s top 100
As a performer, Exum has graced stages from Blues Alley in D.C. to Yoshi’s in Oakland and major jazz festivals nationwide.
His awards include the 2011 International Breakout Star (Coffee Talk Jazz) and honors from the NAACP Colorado chapter.
Beyond music, Tony dedicates himself to mentoring youth in Colorado and is an active voting member of the Recording Academy (Grammy Awards).
Spangalang Brewery is a Black-owned, jazz-inspired microbrewery. The name “spangalang” nods to a classic jazz cymbal rhythm championed by Kenny Clarke in the 1940s—and reflects the brewery’s reverence for Five Points, once dubbed the “Harlem of the West”
Be part of a night that brings jazz to life, celebrates a legendary Denver neighborhood, and features one of the region’s most captivating saxophonists. Secure your seat in the plaza amphitheater and raise a glass to jazz—True Five Points style.
