Thank you to those who supported KUVO JAZZ on Colorado Gives Day!
For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO JAZZ on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.
The Frank Zappa at the Bike Shop Tribute includes Adam Bodine (piano and vocals), Dave Corbus (guitar), Matt Smiley (bass), and Alejandro Castano (drums) as they explore a heroic dose of Frank Zappa's works including focus on early Zappa compositions drawing on his eclectic classical, jazz, and rock influences. Zappa at the Bike Shop tribute is a show not to be missed!
Dave Corbus, University of Colorado instructor of jazz guitar, spent over a decade playing in New York City as part of the "downtown" and mainstream jazz scenes. Mr. Corbus and his trio played weekly at the New York jazz club Augies (now Smoke) for a three-year stint; he also played in several world music bands, and in some of New York’s finest clubs and shows with the blues/funk/jazz band "Business of Blues." Mr. Corbus has also played with a variety of well-known jazz musicians such as Red Holloway, Dr. Lonnie Smith, Plas Johnson, Lewis Nash, Javon Jackson, Bobby Watson and Joey DeFrancesc.
Adam Bodin has refreshingly open sensibilities and an expressive authenticity that especially comes to life through his original instrumental music. A sought-after sideman as well, this remarkably versatile keyboardist is super active across a diverse range of scenes and communities. Adam has accompanied a myriad of popular artists including Rufus Wainwright, Bruce Cockburn, Ron Sexsmith, Daniel Rodriguez, S.G. Goodman, Abraham Alexander, Del McCoury, Peter Rowan, The Secret Sisters, Sarah Jarosz, Charlie Parr, Dom Flemons, The War and Treaty, The California Honeydrops, Cedric Burnside, and Feist to name a few.
Matt Smiley Bassist, composer and educator navigates his broad sonic world with imagination, openness and artistic vision. Smiley has toured nationally and internationally, with bandleaders and composers including David Murray, Terrell Stafford, Christian Wolff, Greg Osby, Vinny Golia, Tony Malaby, Walter Thompson and Sam Newsome.
Alejandro Castaño is an active drummer and educator who has performed with Ron Miles, Eric Gunnison, Greg Gisbert, Peter Sommer, Pete Olstad, Steve Turre, Benny Bannack III, Gabriel Mervine and many others. He is an educator at Denver School of the Arts.
