For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO Jazz on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.

The original location of the Dr. Justina Ford house was 2335 Arapahoe St. The design is a two-story flat roofed brick house. It is simple in massing and detailing; the most distinctive features are the dentils, end brackets, and finials of its pressed metal cornice. It was the residence and office of Dr. Justina Ford from 1912 until she died in 1952. She came to Denver in 1902 and was the first African American female doctor until her death. Her home was moved in 1984, approximately thirteen blocks to its present location, 3091 California St., to save it from demolition. It is now the home of the Black American West Museum & Heritage Center.
When Dr. Ford's house was originally built, it was a mixture of European immigrants were settling in the neighborhood. The Ford House’s first owner was a Jewish Denverite named Isaac Kohn. He lived in the house with his son, Samuel E. Kohn. In 1898, Samuel Kohn cofounded the American Furniture Company, now known as American Furniture Warehouse, which he operated until he died in 1943.
