The Darren Kramer Quintet Honors JJ & Kai

A poster for The Darren Kramer Quintet Honors JJ & Kai event

Join us for this remarkable series by the Darren Kramer Quintet celebrating the legacy of iconic trombonists JJ Johnson & Kai Winding. One of the most influential giants on the instrument, Johnson was among the first to embrace bebop in the late 1940s and 50s, and made a number of phenomenal records with a double-trombone quintet featuring Kai Winding. For this 3-week residency, Darren and his all-star band will be welcoming a different guest trombonist from New York City each week to celebrate this iconic music!

Featuring Darren Kramer and Steve Davis - trombone, Ben Markley - piano, Patrick McDevitt - bass, Dru Heller - drums

Darren Kramer is a professional trombonist, composer, educator, music producer, and motivational speaker who has performed throughout the world as a trombonist with diverse artists Matchbox Twenty, Garth Brooks, Marc Anthony, Tom Jones, Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and Duke Ellington’s Sophisticated Ladies with Mercer Ellington. Kramer is a prolific composer, having recorded six original CDs and arranged more than 400 songs, which feature Grammy Award-winning artists such as Michael Brecker and Jerry Hey. Kramer grew up in a musical family in Colorado, graduated from the University of Miami, and is an XO Brass Artist and Ableton Certified Trainer who now creatively combines live acoustic instruments with music technology. Kramer shares his vast knowledge from 40 years of extensive performing and teaching experience via his 2023 TEDx Talk and online course "Trombonology", his ultramodern group ElektroHornz, as well as his music and wellness podcast Sonic Tonic Experience.
