Thank you to those who supported KUVO JAZZ on Colorado Gives Day!
For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO JAZZ on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.
We are delighted to welcome back to the Nocturne stage bandleader David Mesquitic as he leads a quintet of all-star musicians. The band, a vibrant ensemble blending hard bop, blues, swing, and Latin influences, launches its Colorado debut with a residency at Nocturne every Friday. Expanding upon the acclaimed David Mesquitic Trio, the Quintet adds two horn players, enriching the sound with greater color, energy, and compositional possibilities. Expect to hear a captivating blend of original compositions, fresh arrangements, and classic jazz quintet repertoire from the last century. David (piano) will be joined by Gabriel Mervine (trumpet), Wil Swindler (saxophones), Seth Lewis (bass), and Bobby Wiens and Brian Claxton (drums).
Award-winning pianist David Mesquitic is a composer and educator committed to the intergenerational transfer of the knowledge, history, and traditions of jazz. Mesquitic currently teaches at Colorado State University (CSU) and the University of Northern Colorado (UNC). Mesquitic holds a Doctor of Musical Arts from the University of Texas at Austin, where he was awarded the 2022 Eleanor Alexander Stripling Award for Excellence in Jazz Studies. Mesquitic’s artistry has also been recognized as a recipient of the 2024 United States Air Force Band Diversity Fellowship.
