A poster for The Gabriel Mervine Quintet feat.Tatiana Mayfield event

We are delighted to welcome trumpeter, composer, and educator Gabriel Mervine back to the stage for a special four-week series. Gabriel's instantly recognizable sound and masterful, sensitive approach to improvised music have established him as one of the most dynamic voices in the Denver scene and beyond. On this evening, Gabe will be joined on stage by Jack Dunlevie (piano), Seth Lewis (bass), Dru Heller (drums), and this evening's special guest, Tatiana Mayfield (jazz vocalist).

Born in Princeton, New Jersey, Gabriel Mervine began his professional playing career at the age of thirteen. He went to the University of Colorado Boulder for Jazz Studies, but after one year, he decided to dedicate his time to becoming a working trumpet player, which would include continuing his studies privately with people such as Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, and Greg Gisbert, just to name a few.

Gabriel quickly gained recognition and began performing with people such as Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, The Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, The Colorado Symphony, The Temptations, Terence Blanchard, Karl Denson, John Scofield, Hugh Jackman, Lonnie Smith, Russell Malone, The Who, Maceo Parker, Wycliff Gordon, Sean Jones, Roberta Gambarini, the Motet, and Houston Person while also building a strong freelance career playing everything from Mariachi to Mahler. In addition to being one of the most respected and sought-after trumpeters in Colorado, Gabriel is also a renowned bandleader, taking his ensembles on new sonic journeys with every performance.
