In a special one-night performance with Julie Koenig and her quintet as they celebrate the 50th anniversary of Joni Mitchell’s 1975 album, The Hissing of Summer Lawns. This music is jazz-inspired and experimental, marking an adventurous turn in Mitchell’s career; the lyrics explore themes like modern industrialization and women’s experiences under patriarchy. Julie will be joined by Tom Amend on piano, Matt Smiley on bass, Bobby Wiens on drums, and Ben Hall on guitar.
Julie Koenig is an accomplished multi-genre vocalist, pianist, and educator based in Fort Collins, CO. Her sound is influenced by the traditions of jazz and blues; key inspirations include Ella Fitzgerald, Nina Simone, Anita O’Day, Carole King, and Joni Mitchell. Julie is currently an adjunct instructor of Applied Voice, Applied Piano, and Class Piano at Laramie County Community College (Cheyenne, WY), and instructor of voice and piano at Flourish Music Academy (Greeley, CO).
