A poster for The Max Moore Quartet Plays McCoy & Mulgrew event

We are excited to present (for the first time on the Nocturne stage as a bandleader!) precocious pianist and composer Max Moore with his quartet as they honor the legacy of two giants of jazz piano: McCoy Tyner and Mulgrew Miller. Two incredibly influential masters of the instrument, McCoy and Mulgrew both transformed the sound of the modern piano through their work as sidemen and bandleaders, and inspired generations of musicians after them. Max will be joined by an all-star lineup of local musicians for this 3-week series.

Originally hailing from Conyers, Georgia, Max Moore is an up-and-coming pianist on the Denver music scene. Playing professionally since the age of 14, he attended Denver School of the Arts and went through Colorado Conservatory for the Jazz Arts, studying under and playing with Denver greats such as Eric Gunnison, Shane Endsley, Brad Goode, Paul Romaine, Greg Gisbert, and Greg Harris. Max is a regular performer at Denver venues such as Dazzle, Nocturne, Mercury Cafe, has played at the Vail Jazz festival, the Five Points Jazz festival, been in Downbeat magazine, and was recognized by Wynton Marsalis to receive a soloist award at the Essentially Ellington competition in New York City.

He keeps a busy schedule of performances all across Denver and the Front Range, with residencies at the Mercury Cafe, Seven Grand, and Jungle, hosting jam sessions, working with CCJA, teaching private lessons, as well as national tours with acclaimed Ghanaian Afro-Fusion drummer Paa Kow, and the Denver-based collective Daruma.
