Help share more music in 2026 - make a year-end gift!
Due to high winds and fire danger, transmitters are operating at reduced power and reception may be affected through the weekend. Thank you for your understanding and support! You can listen online and on the KUVO app.
For our Summit County Listeners: The KVJZ 91.7FM transmitter site on Bald Mountain experienced a catastrophic power line failure. Because of the high elevation and winter conditions, repairs won’t be possible until next summer. Stream KUVO JAZZ on our website, the app, or your smart speaker.
Celebrate the love in your life with an unforgettable evening at Nocturne on Valentine's Weekend! On this special romantic evening, we are delighted to host the Gabriel Mervine Quintet with special guest jazz vocalist Marion Powers.
Gabriel Mervine began his professional playing career at the age of thirteen, going on to attend Colorado University at Boulder for Jazz Studies, but after one year decided to dedicate his time to becoming a working trumpet player, which would include private studies with: Bobby Shew, Roger Ingram, Greg Gisbert and others. Gabriel quickly gained recognition and began performing with people such as Natalie Cole, Christian McBride, The Clayton/Hamilton Orchestra, The Colorado Symphony, The Temptations, Terence Blanchard, Karl Denson, John Scofield, Hugh Jackman, Lonnie Smith, Russell Malone, The Who, Maceo Parker, Wycliff Gordon, Sean Jones, Roberta Gambarini, the Motet, and Houston Person. In addition to being one of the most sought after trumpeters in Colorado, Gabriel is also a renowned bandleader, taking his ensembles on new sonic journeys with every performance.
Marion Powers is an award-winning jazz vocalist with a modern, but sensitive approach to songwriting/arranging and improvising. While heavily influenced by classic jazz singers like Billie Holiday, Carmen McRae, and Sarah Vaughan, her experiences performing with or being mentored by Christian McBride, Dianne Reeves, Marshall Gilkes, Johnaye Kendrick, and Melissa Aldana have been instrumental to her artistic development.
Marion earned both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Jazz Performance from the University of North Texas. In addition to a busy performance calendar filled with dates in Colorado and throughout the United States, Marion maintains a worldwide voice studio and is a professor at the University of Northern Colorado.
