Denver Arts & Venues has announced open nominations for the Mayor’s Awards for Excellence in Arts & Culture. They’re looking for programs, individuals, and organizations that make significant and lasting contributions to the artistic, cultural, and creative landscape in the City and County.

The five categories are for youth aged 14 and up, for at least a decade of Arts & Culture impact in Denver, as well as for global impact, innovation, and the JEDI category – which stands for Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

Winners receive a $2,500 stipend, a video highlight reel, and hardware – a piece of artwork created by Access Gallery, including a commemorative plaque, plus an award luncheon in December.

Nominations are being accepted through Friday, July 5, but the city is accepting applications through, July 28.

Jason Berry’s acclaimed documentary film about New Orleans’ tradition of second-line funeral parades “City of A Million Dreams” is picking up steam on the festival circuit, with screenings in New Orleans, at the Manhattan Film Festival over the past weekend, and at the African Diaspora Cinema Festival in Florence, Tuscany, Italy at the end of June.

Below is an audio clip from the trailer. Legendary Crescent City clarinetist Dr. Michael White is featured prominently in the film.
