Denver’s consensus “first call” bassist is a hulk of a man and a heck of a player.  And when he’s not teaching students at the University of Denver Lamont School of Music, he’s answering the phone or navigating his appointment book to squeeze in the next gig. Ken Walker brings his Sextet to Dazzle at Baur’s this Friday, October 27, and KUVO listeners will get to hear the first set LIVE, beginning at 6:30pm.

The Ken Walker Sextet is a little like the full moon, except the KWS is more dependable and swings harder. You know the players: Jenkins, Romaine, Sommer, Hood, Corbus, and after years of working with the biggest names in jazz, the play just as well together. Watching them lock down a groove, or swing out toward the edges during solos, you might suspect they’re reading each other’s minds.
