Thanks to all our of esteemed listeners who became new, renewing or rejoining  members making our Winter Membership Drive successful, a special additional hug of gratitude is extended to those who pledged during the 2 New Music Monday editions of the campaign.

As March arrives with snow, wind and cold, I’m hoping this edition of New Music Monday will provide musical sunshine and warmth. Steve Turre performed for KUVO in August of  2013 at our annual Live at the Vineyards at the Balestreri. Trombone and shell master’s brand new recording is Spiritman for Smoke Sessions Records. The veteran vocalist Ernestine Anderson launches Swings the Penthouse accompanied  by her touring trio recorded live at Jazz from the Penthouse in her home tome of Seattle back in 1962, whoa, a 1962 concert for New Music Monday? Yes, as it’s a session never before commercially available so it indeed qualifies as a new release. Our 3rd highlight is by guitarist Russell Malone, his newest is  Love Looks Good On You, a swingin’ album that has Russell backed up by a formidable trio for the HighNote label.

Other debuting CDs will include the Eyal Vilner Big Band featuring Denverite Greg Gisbert on trumpet, Almost Sunrise, Eyal’s first recording since arriving to NY from his native Israel. Pianist Michael Wolff and drummer Mike Clark collaborate once again on Wolff & Clark Expedition 2, a tasty follow up to their previous expedition. The Quebecer pianist Chantale Gagné releases The Left Side of the Moon featuring Peter Washington on bass, Lewis Nash playing drums and Steve Wilson playing saxes and flute.

Time permitting, we’ll throw in another new CD or two, it all begins at Noon time on Lunchtime at the Oasis.
