2013 Merger

The story is still being written. Here’s a flashback to 2013, when public media in Colorado took a big step forward. Before the two boards would agree, we had to seek the council of the community. Held at Su Teatro and Red Line Gallery. We got an ear full on how important it was for KUVO to stay connected to the community. See the press release below.

In 2013, Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS) merged with KUVO Jazz public radio station, and I-News, a nonprofit investigative reporting service. This merger aimed to create a more robust public media entity in Colorado by combining resources, information, and newsgathering capabilities. The formal merger between KUVO and KRMA (RMPBS's Denver station) was completed in April 2013.

In a press release, RMPBS said it had partnered with I-News since the launch of the service in 2009, and the organizations already shared content and location. Doug Price, RMPBS then president, said the station also had “a long tradition of collaboration” with KUVO, “which serves a culturally rich, diverse audience that reflects the demographic future of Colorado.”

The three organizations started the transition to share resources, information and news, according to the announcement. The formal merger between KUVO and KRMA was completed in April of 2013.

KUVO JAZZ and Rocky Mountain PBS (RMPBS) are both part of the larger entity Rocky Mountain Public Media (RMPM). RMPM serves as an umbrella organization that provides a diverse range of content across television, radio, and digital platforms to the communities of Colorado. The station remains today an integral part of RMPM—Rocky Mountain Public Media, home to RMPBS, KUVO Jazz and The Drop.

KUVO’s home at the time of the merger was at the Five Points Media Center in Five Points. The Buell Public Media Center in Denver opened in July 2020 bringing KUVO Jazz, The Drop and RMPBS under one roof at 2101 Arapahoe Street, in Denver. The grand opening celebration took place in October 2020.
