Back in the Day

We’ve discovered a few songs that were used in shows no longer on KUVO, including:

L.C.’s Saturday show: Charles Earland – “More Today than Yesterday.”

Ed Danielson (when he hosted the weekday Morning Beat): Duke Ellington – “Morning Mood.”

Mike Wulfsohn (in the early days of his Monday Night Beat show) had a closing theme: John Abercrombie – “Backward Glance.”

When Danny Valenzuela was a rotating host on Canción Mexican (before Latin Soul Party), his closing theme song was “Juan sin las Gallinas” by Krucez. This song had the phrase “hay te watcho,” which is the Chicano Spanglish version of “See you.”

The program InDigitNess Voice was on the air for a decade, hosted by Richard Two Elk, Alix Two Elk and Kodid Laraque Two Elk. Their opening track set the tone for a Sunday morning excursion into Native American music, thought and culture, Ed Lee Natay’s “Zuni Sunrise.”

One of KUVO’s original bi-lingual programs was La Nueva Voz, hosted by Jack Mudry. He opened his Sunday program with the song “En Mi” by Ecuadoran artist José Arciniegas.

Barrel-toned jazz aficionado Erik Troe hosted several shows at KUVO over the years. He used the relaxed swing of Duke Ellington’s “Blues in Orbit” as a regular theme.

One more from Andy O’, who has been around KUVO long enough to use and retire a few theme songs. For a few years he favored closing his shows with pianist Don Pullen’s “Jana’s Delight”
