Community Voices: Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado
Abby Hanson of Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC) joined Paul Donovan for Community Voices on Monday, July 21, at 4:15 p.m. VOC is a nonprofit organization that connects people to nature through hands-on volunteer projects. They bring together people who love the outdoors for a common purpose: to protect and preserve what we love. In fact, last year, their volunteers contributed over 2,800 days of service across more than 100 projects throughout the entire state.
Their projects really range in scope, from a quick, two-hour community gardening project in a public park to a full weekend of camping and trail building in the mountains. So, whether folks are looking to dip their toes in or are looking for a unique way to spend a weekend, there’s something for everyone.
What makes VOC projects truly enjoyable is the opportunity to try something new, whether it’s tree planting, harvesting in the garden, or building a trail. There’s also always a rewarding sense of accomplishment that comes from working alongside others to leave a place better than you found it.
VOC hosting a Summer Social on Thursday, August 7, from 5 to 7 p.m. at their office in Washington Park. It’s a casual open house where folks can swing by, meet their team, check out a gear swap, and learn more about how to get involved.
People can also learn more on their website at VOC.org.
