The Grammy-winning South Carolina band Ranky Tanky returns to Denver on April 7 at The Newman Center with guest vocalist Lisa Fischer.

We caught up with vocalist, trumpeter, and emcee Charlton Singleton for a few stories from their travels as ambassadors of the Gullah people’s vocal traditions and culture.

They’re connecting with audiences worldwide, including younger audiences with a dance remix of their earlier hit song “Freedom.” The two-time Grammy-winning group has a new album in the works, This Village.

The audio posted here is the extended cut of this conversation, including a little bit of that dance track.
