This is Jazz News, a look at what’s news in jazz, music, and the arts.

Over the last few months, KUVO has enjoyed some serious recognition in the community, and there’s another prize to announce. In case you missed it, KUVO’s Cultural Ambassador Arturo Gómez received the Marian McPartland-Willis Conover Award for Career Achievement in Broadcasting from the Jazz Journalists Association. The host of “Lunchtime” and Sunday’s “Salsa Con Jazz” has been at KUVO since 2003. He was music director at KUVO for more than two decades and previously at Miami’s WDNA radio.(SOURCE: JJA Jazz Awards/2025 Winners)

Shout out to the Muse Performance Space in Lafayette, which won notice in Boulder Weekly’s “Best of Boulder” 2025 edition in the Live Jazz Venue category.  Readers gave The Muse top marks, and editors noted their knack for presenting the classics and the next big thing.

The St. Julien Hotel and Nissi’s took silver and bronze mentions from the Boulder Weekly.

Known as the “Godmother of Rock n Roll,” Sister Rosetta Tharpe’s life is getting the Hollywood treatment with a biopic starring Lizzo. Despite the raw form of pop-rock on Lizzo’s latest singles, the multiple Grammy-winning artist will portray the pioneering gospel singer-songwriter with breakthrough guitar skills. Forest Whitaker is one of the producers of the film to be called “Rosetta,” along with Amazon MGM Studios, according to Deadline.com.

Among her many innovations, turning her wedding into the first stadium concert and a performance at a Manchester, England, train station. Tharpe was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in 2018, the result of a campaign initiated by KUVO gospel host at the time, Greg Rasheed.
