Jazz News: Nocturne and Fort Greene Bar lauded, Rock Hall nominees, Buddy Guy on Tiny Desk
This is Jazz News, a look at what’s news in jazz, music, and the arts.
The Colorado Business Committee for the Arts is all about building and promoting systems that get artists paid. They just named this year’s awardees, including the jazz and supper club Nocturne, named for its community engagement, artist development, and youth education. We know Nocturne for its artistic residency program, which has been running for a decade. Also named was Fort Greene Bar in the Globeville neighborhood, a cocktail lounge where art, music, and connection intersect through exhibits, literary readings, film screenings, DJ nights, experimental performances, and more.
The CBCA’s 2026 Business for the Arts Awards luncheon will be on Tuesday, April 21 at the Seawell Ballroom at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Details on this amazing networking event at CBCA.
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland announced the short list for its 2026 inductions. Lauryn Hill appeared on the shortlist for the first time. She’s riding high after her fine performance at this year’s Grammy award show. Sade – the band named after their lead singer - has their second nomination to the Hall. Shakira’s rise from Columbian punk-rocker to global pop star won her a first-time nomination. Soul crooner Luther Vandross was a jingle singer, and a producer before stepping into his own bright spotlight. It’s his first nomination. And our next-door neighbors at The Drop 104.7 are happy about Wu-Tang Clan’s first Rock Hall nomination. Now it’s up to the fans to vote at Rock Hall.
Here’s the NPR Music story on this year’s nominees.
Shout out to living blues legend Buddy Guy, who just dropped his Tiny Desk concert at NPR Music. Thumb-picking his Stratocaster, singing the hard blues, and charming the audience. Young singer-actor Miles Caton, who shared the role of Sammie “Preacher Boy” Moore in the multi-Oscar nominated film “Sinners,” joined Buddy Guy behind the Tiny Desk.
Buddy Guy has more hit records and awards than ex-wives and children. He’s turning 90 in July, and he’s not looking back.
