Live & Local: How Alex Heffron got on Tiny Desk

Steve Chavis joined KUVO JAZZ in 2012 as morning news host and Public Affairs Manager, and spent five years alongside Carlos Lando as co-host of “First Take with Lando and Chavis.” He served for five years as program director

After a couple of solo releases, KUVO “30 Under 30” honoree (from ten years ago) Alex Heffron strapped his guitar case on his back and set off for the Big Apple in 2024.

The next thing we know, he turns up on NPR’s Tiny Desk with Igmar Thomas’ Revive Big Band.

We caught up with Heffron at his Brooklyn apartment to hear the story of his travels and trials as an itinerant guitarist in musician-heavy NYC. Teaching, sub gigs, busking in Central Park, his ongoing Colorado connections, and some bright moments.
