Live at the Oasis CDs – for Members Only
The Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio had been hosting live broadcast performances for a couple of years by 1998. Knock down, blow your mind performances, usually in front of a live studio audience, and broadcast in-the-moment over the airwaves. The vibe, the music was so strong, we had to share it further. In those closing years of the 20th century, the “Live at the Oasis” CD was born.
Volume 1 featured nine tracks from local and national artists – all world-class talent, nearly 72 minutes of live recording! The concept for the CD was to provide these recordings as a premium for members only. “We didn’t sell them at stores. We didn’t give them away. They were exclusive,” explained Carlos Lando, executive producer of the project.
“I think about the musicians who gladly donated their time and support for the project, allowing us to share these tracks for public radio KUVO members. They were more than happy to participate.”
Eleven original volumes were produced from 1998 to 2015. Many of the tracks were long tracks (more than 10 minutes), where the artists really stretched out. And Volumes 10 and 11 were double CDs.
There are a few other CD projects KUVO has issued over the years, including an anthology (Live at the Oasis – Performance Studio Classics, La Musica - The Latino Side of KUVO, and four volumes of music dedicated to the music of Cancion Mexicana. Cover art for all KUVO CD projects was usually donated by Colorado artists and photographers, including Dennis Boudreau, Gary Wilhelm, Scott Kiemle, Sharon Strasberg, Reed Weimer, Dane Tilgman (Volumes 6-10), Jack Price II, Daniel Luna and Carlos Frésquez. We are so grateful for all the community support!
Live at the Oasis CDs were all produced in limited edition. So, if you have one, you’re fortunate (copies show up on E-bay from time to time). Hopefully, the sellers will continue to support your friendly public radio station KUVO Jazz.
