Live on KUVO! Studio Selects — A First Look Inside the Studio

What's up! My name is alldaywes from Denver, Colorado and I have always been inspired by music’s ability to connect people and push boundaries, which is what I aim to do every week with the Jazz Odyssey program
Left to right - Eric Benny Bloom, Makaya McCraven, The Parrisian, Madison McFerrin, and Brant Williams (of ManyColors)

There’s a unique magic to live, in-studio performances and Live on KUVO! Studio Selects taps into that energy, highlighting standout sessions recorded at KUVO Studios inside the Buell Public Media Center.

Curated by alldaywes, host of Monday Night Jazz Odyssey, this first edition brings together a diverse mix of artists, each offering something distinct.

The episode opens with vocalist Madison McFerrin, whose stripped-down performance of “(Please Don’t) Leave Me Now” reflects on survival and gratitude following a serious car accident. It’s a deeply personal moment, carried by soft jazz textures and subtle funk influences.

From there, Makaya McCraven raises the energy with “Venice,” a layered, improvisational piece performed alongside Marquis Hill, Junius Paul, and Emmanuel Michael. The result is dynamic and free-flowing, capturing the essence of live jazz experimentation.

Trumpeter Eric “Benny” Bloom follows with “Where Did We Go Wrong?,” showcasing not only his signature horn work but also a smooth, soulful vocal performance, backed by a tight-knit quartet with Hunter Roberts on Bass, Tom Amend on keys, and Braxton Khan behind the drums.

Next, Parris Flemming and The Parrisian Live Band deliver “STARZ,” a high-energy, cinematic performance that blends precision and power, reflecting Flemming’s global touring experience. The Parrisian Live Band features a star studded cast of musicians with Enmanuel Alexander on the guitar, Will Gaines on the Bass guitar, and Matt Campbell on the drums.

Closing out the set is Denver-based group Manycolors with a tribute to J Dilla’s “Lightworks.” Fusing jazz and hip-hop, their lo-fi grooves and heavy rhythms offer a fresh take on a classic. Featuring Brant Williams on guitar, our good friend Braxton Kahn returns on the drums, Eric Luba who is a wizard on the keys, and Kirwan Brown holding it down on the bass.

Together, these performances highlight what makes KUVO’s studio sessions so special: incredible talent, authentic moments, and stories that live far beyond the recording. This is just the beginning, and if this first edition is any indication, KUVO’s studio sessions are a treasure trove waiting to be explored.

Be sure to also check out the companion episode “Abi’s Picks,” another curated selection from Thursday night Jazz Odyssey host Abi Clark, highlighting standout performances from the KUVO studio archive.
