Salsa con Jazz: Rafael Ithier
This Sunday’s edition of Salsa con Jazz, hosted by Arturo Gómez at 2 pm, will feature a posthumous tribute to pianist-composer-bandleader Rafael Ithier, who passed away Saturday, December 6, at his home in San Juan, Puerto Rico. He was 99 years of age.
We’ll play a few songs from his beginnings as the pianist for Puerto Rico’s Cortijo y su Combo of the 1950s and then concentrate on the group he founded in 1962, El Gran Combo, which is still active over 60 years later.
