Salsa Con Jazz: Rebroadcasts Eddie Palmieri Tribute
Join Carlos Lando and Arturo Gómez on Sunday, November 2 from 2 pm to 4 pm. Salsa con Jazz will rebroadcast the special 2-hour tribute to NEA Jazz Master Eddie Palmieri, aired shortly after the passing of Eddie “Rompe Teclas” Palmieri. The homage included songs spanning Eddie’s amazing career over 60 years.
KUVO’s connection with Eddie Palmieri is long and strong:
- KUVO’s long time program director Carlos Lando has known Palmieri personally since the 1970s.
- Eddie Palmieri performed at KUVO’s 10th anniversary party (1995) at the “old” El Jebel Shrine, with Gene Harris and Rubén Ramos also on the bill.
- “Toast of the Nation” is NPR's annual New Year's Eve special, a multi-hour broadcast featuring live jazz performances from different locations and time zones around the world. In 2004, NPR member station KUVO hosted Toast of the Nation. Special guest pianist Eddie Palmieri was on the bandstand.
- He frequently visited Colorado to perform, most recently in 2019 at the Lincoln Center in Fort Collins, Colo., and he made it a point to visit KUVO studios whenever he was in town.
- Performed at Dazzle for a special performance to benefit Puerto Rico.
- In 2006, KUVO’s Ritmo Latino Project produced and distributed a four-part radio series “Caliente! With Eddie Palmieri,” to broadcast outlets throughout the U.S. and Canada, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. Caliente Latin Jazz with Eddie Palmieri was produced by KUVO JAZZ.
