Take Five with Marius Van Den Brink

Did you ever wonder what your favorite musicians are listening to or the recordings that influenced them? “Take Five” is a look at the music that inspires and excites them. It’s difficult to choose ONLY five recordings!

Pianist Marius Van Den Brink sojourned from Amsterdam to the Capital of Jazz, New York City, and quickly established himself with first-call musicians Stacy Dillard, Willie Jones III, and Sean Jones, among others. His latest release, “Marius Van Den Brink Live At Dizzy’s Club,” was recorded at the prestigious venue Jazz at Lincoln Center. The live CD follows his critically acclaimed release “New York Knock.”

Duke Ellington - Piano Reflections (Capitol Jazz)

Duke is my biggest inspiration and opened my eyes to the world of jazz. Checking out his piano playing has been essential for my development.

Bill Evans - You Must Believe In Spring (Warner Brothers)

I have always deeply admired Bill’s playing and his sound. This album means a lot to me.

Gerald Clayton – Bond: The Paris Sessions (EmArcy)

In particular, the track “Major Hope” showed me such a sophisticated way of playing the piano. A very inspiring player and composer.

Michael Jackson - Off The Wall (Epic)

I have always been inspired by many genres of music. His soulfulness and songs resonate with me on many levels.

Stacy Dillard - Good and Bad Memories (Criss Cross)

Stacy is probably my biggest inspiration in NYC. He has shown me so many things, musically as a bandleader and as a composer. An incredible player and a great friend.
