Vinyl Vault: Gary Burton Quartet, “Passengers”
This week’s Vinyl Vault will feature a 1977 album from vibist Gary Burton and his quartet entitled "Passengers.” The album was released on the ECM Records label.
Steve Swallow was the bassist in the quartet at that time and the guest artist on this album was fellow bassist Eberhard Weber, making this a two-bass affair. Also of note is the presence of a young Pat Metheny, just before he formed the Pat Metheny Group. Speaking of the PMG, the drummer on “Passengers” was Dan Gottlieb, who was the first drummer in the Pat Metheny Group.
The album featured several compositions by Pat Metheny and it kicked off with a composition by Chick Corea, “Sea Journey.”
