Vinyl Vault: Scott Cossu, "Islands"
This week’s Vinyl Vault will feature pianist Scott Cossu and his album “Islands.” The album was released on Windham Hill Records in 1984. Windham Hill was known for issuing albums of acoustic music, often by solo artists. “Island” featured a full band including the rhythm section of the original Pat Metheny Group, Danny Gottlieb on drums, and Mark Egan on bass. Also on the album were Dave Valentin on flute, Michael Urbaniak on violin, and Roger Squitero on congas and percussion.
Cossu composed all the music on “Islands,” it ranges from quiet, contemplative music to passages of high, rhythmic energy.
Check out the Vinyl Vault with Geoff Anderson, on Tuesday, February 24, at 8:30 p.m. on KUVO JAZZ.
