Brazilian guitar virtuoso Alessandro Penezzi returns to Colorado with his 7-string guitar and new
repertoires. Featuring local clarinetist Dexter Payne as a special guest, Penezzi will perform traditional as
well as his own compositions of Brazilian choros, sambas, and other styles. Whether you are a seasoned
Brazilian music fan or a complete novice to Brazilian music, this promises to be one of those rare
opportunities to be completely mesmerized and lost listening to the dancing chords of Penezzi’s guitar.

Penezzi has performed with some of the most important contemporary Brazilian instrumental groups as

both a leader and a sideman. Credits include: flutist Carlos Poyares; Trio Quintessence; Group Choro
Rasgado; Projeto Violões do Brasil; Duo Maestro Laercio de Freitas; Trio with Yamandú Costa and
Rogério Caetano; Trio with Sizão Machado and Alex Buck. In 2011, he opened for and performed with
living legend Wayne Shorter at the Spokie Jazz Festival in Macedônia.

Clarinetist Dexter Payne is a Front Range veteran of Judy Roderick 60 Million Buffalo, BBQ Bob & Washboard Chaz, and alumnus of Sam Bivens, and Denver Jazz Orchestra. Expanding out with Thiago de Mello’s Amazon and International Blues Challenge champion the Lionel Young Band, best known for playing Brazilian choro jazz with this band Dexter Payne Quintet (DPQ). DPQ features two Alessadro Penezzi compositions on its 2018 CD, Jazz for All, the result of Dexter playing with Penezzi in the 2014 Colorado Brazil Fest, California Brazil Camp, 2014 Choro Camp Sambaíba (Ceará, Brazil), and also at Ó do Borogodó—a lively little bar in São Paulo frequented by well-known musicians of Brazilian choro, samba, and other Brazilian popular music genres. Dexter reunites with his friend Penezzi for a portion of this memorable night of Brazil in Denver.
