Guitarist and educator Thomas Haupt - featured on KUVO’s latest release, Live at the Oasis Volume 11 - has performed, recorded and toured internationally.

Thomas studied with fingerstyle guitarists Sean Mcgowan, Bill Kopper, and Masa Ito and received a bachelor’s degree in guitar performance from the University of Colorado Denver.

“I got into jazz fusion and it opened up this whole world of music I never knew existed,” Thomas said.

“I would read a lot about different musicians. I wanted to see who inspired Chick Corea, who inspired all these fusion people, and that got me to dig deeper into the jazz tradition,” Thomas said.

Thomas has been performing and teaching for more than a decade.

“I love to see progress and development [in my students], even if it’s just one chord or they learn to play one song,” Thomas said.

“It’s kind of like an addiction: once you’re hooked, you’re in.”

To celebrate 30 years on the air and invest in the future of jazz, KUVO interviewed 30 local musicians under the age of 30. These features will be released on-air and online June 29-October 31.
