Yolanda Ortega
Yolanda Ortega joined the KUVO JAZZ family co-hosting Cancion Mejicana on January 6, 2014. Yolanda has a passion for traditional Mexican music as well as the current Latino favorites, admitting her preference for Tejano music. No wonder…her family still lives in San Antonio.
Yolanda has been an actor, director, and musician with Su Teatro, a Chicano theater company based in Denver for 40 years. Along with a fellow performer and co-host of Canción Mexicana, Debra Gallegos, they produced a CD featuring their favorite songs called “Two Hearts, One Voice”.
Since her retirement from Metropolitan State University of Denver as Vice President of Student Affairs, she has remained active in the community and at MSU. She currently works part-time as a special events programmer for Clínica Tepeyac. She serves on the Board of Directors for Firefly Autism. She served the Governor’s appointee to the Auraria Higher Education Center Board of Directors, Escuela Tlatelolco and Denver Mayor’s Commission on Cultural Affairs and the Denver Latino Commission.
